Aggie Season!

My dear friends, Aggie season has begun!
I'm not just talking about school starting, or football season.  I'm talking about the fun that happens while i'm away at school!

Lauren and I have already tried on some "super cutie" dresses at the DI.

Stopping by Six Star party outlet was a MUST!  I just couldn't contain my excitement when I saw that they had brightly colored ski masks.

I've already suffered from massive amounts of stress!
You may think that i'm just being silly, but in all actuality I'm desperately trying to make myself laugh so I don't go insane.

We've supported our Aggies!

We lost the game :(
I finally purchased the 'I heart Boobies' bracelet that I've been wanting.  It's my cute way of supporting breast cancer research.

I wore my favorite outfit to church as well as completed my favorite project of all time!  This project helped me realize that I needed to change my major and pursue my dreams/goals.

Lauren's boy toy decided to model my wrapping paper skirt one night.

As you can plainly see, so far it's been a wonderful year!  I love my time spend in Logan.  I love Aggie Season!

Big News!

I have BIG NEWS!  MONUMENTAL News!  HUGE News!

On Friday at 2:00pm I am actually going to declare a major.  I will be declaring a major in FCSE; Family Consumer Science Education.  I blame the following inspiration on my calling.

It occurred to me the other day during my psychological statistics class that I have no desire to conduct tests on peoples behavior for the rest of my life.  I know that a degree in psychology doesn't necessarily mean that all I would be doing to psychological studies, but I don't want to risk it.  I just wanted to go into counseling, but getting there is a very hard process!
I've decided that I want to be a high school sewing teacher!  Sewing was my favorite class all through junior high and high school and I want others to enjoy it like I do.  I'd also like to be a foods and nutrition teacher.

Who ever thought I would want to be a teacher?  Actually I did.  I want to do something that I love for the rest of my life, I want others to share the joy I feel when I do something I love, I want a career that will allow me to spend time with my family.  Looks like I want to be a teacher.  I'm super excited!  As of right now it looks like I will probably be graduating late though :(

I'm awesome!

Basically I'm like the most awesome roommate known to man!
Last night I made scones :)  Mmmmmm scones.
No, I didn't just make scones that were eaten with honey butter, I mad them like 50 times better!
For dinner we had Navajo taco scones and for dessert we had cinna-scones.  It was heaven! Even though I was slaving over hot oil for like two hours it was TOTALLY worth it to see the looks my roommates gave me as they took their first bite.
Success!

Heaven on a Baking Sheet

So, anyone who knows anything about weddings knows that French Maracoons are the new big thing.  I was lucky to try them while at a farmers market in San Francisco and needless to say I fell in LOVE.

Me being an awesomely amazing roommate decided to introduce my lovely girlies to these exquisite bits of heaven.

Okay, we weren't quite as fancy as the picture but when you're in college it doesn't really matter.

Here's the recipe.
(If anyone tells you that Macaroons are hard to make the are a lying butt face... or are a crappy cook)

                         Makes 35 macaroons
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 3/4 cup almond flour
  • 2 large egg whites, room temperature
  • Pinch of cream of tartar
  • 1/4 cup superfine sugar
  • 3/4 cup seedless raspberry jam, for filling

  • MACAROON VARIATIONS
  • Chocolate: Substitute 3 tablespoons unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder for 1/4 cup of the almond flour.
  • Coconut: Substitute 2 tablespoons desiccated unsweetened coconut for 2 tablespoons of the almond flour, and add 1/2 teaspoon rum; sprinkle with additional coconut before baking.
  • Peanut: Substitute an equal amount finely ground unsalted peanuts (peanut flour) for the almond flour.
  • Pistachio: Substitute 1/2 cup finely ground unsalted pistachios (pistachio flour) for 1/2 cup of the almond flour, and add 2 to 3 drops forest-green gel-paste food coloring.
  • Raspberry: Add 1 tablespoon fresh raspberry puree, strained, plus 3 to 4 drops dusty- rose gel-paste food coloring.
  • Vanilla Bean: Add 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract or seeds from 1/2 vanilla bean, split and scraped, pod reserved for another use.
  • SUGGESTED FILLINGS FOR MACAROONS
  • Chocolate: Chocolate Ganache
  • Coconut: 1 cup Swiss Meringue Buttercream, mixed with 1/3 cup angel-flake coconut.
  • Peanut: Chocolate Ganache, or store-bought dulce de leche, jam, or peanut butter.
  • Pistachio: 1 cup Swiss Meringue Buttercream, mixed with 1/3 cup finely chopped pistachios.
  • Raspberry: 3/4 cup seedless raspberry jam
  • Vanilla Bean: 1 cup Pineapple Buttercream , 1 cup Swiss Meringue Buttercream, or 3/4 cup store-bought jam or preserves.

Directions

  1. Pulse confectioners' sugar and almond flour in a food processor until combined. Sift mixture 2 times.
  2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Whisk whites with a mixer on medium speed until foamy. Add cream of tartar, and whisk until soft peaks form. Reduce speed to low, then add superfine sugar. Increase speed to high, and whisk until stiff peaks form, about 8 minutes. Sift flour mixture over whites, and fold until mixture is smooth and shiny.
  3. Transfer batter to a pastry bag fitted with a 1/2-inch plain round tip, and pipe 3/4-inch rounds 1 inch apart on parchment-lined baking sheets, dragging pastry tip to the side of rounds rather than forming peaks. Tap bottom of each sheet on work surface to release trapped air. Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees. Bake 1 sheet at a time, rotating halfway through, until macaroons are crisp and firm, about 10 minutes. After each batch, increase oven temperature to 375 degrees, heat for 5 minutes, then reduce to 325 degrees.
  4. Let macaroons cool on sheets for 2 to 3 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. (If macaroons stick, spray water underneath parchment on hot sheet. The steam will help release macaroons.)
  5. Sandwich 2 same-size macaroons with 1 teaspoon jam. Serve immediately, or stack between layers of parchment, wrap in plastic, and freeze for up to 3 months.

Tying Up Loose Strings

The last of SF with the Popsicle.

Once upon a time I went to high school in Utah with a bunch of teenage LDS girls who thought the the musical Wicked was the most amazing musical since Les Miserables.  Day after day I would walk to class being serenaded to by a gaggle (yes, like geese) of girls singing "POPULAR, you're gonna be popular!".

It made me SICK!

Well, while I was in San Francisco my dad and I went and saw Wicked.

Oh, I forgot this!  My dad took my mom to SF a while back and they went and saw Wicked without me.  I held that over his head until I finally got a trip of my own.  Win on my part!

Back to my story.

Wicked was in fact a very cute musical.  I still don't like the fact that there were so many annoying girls who sang it throughout the halls of my high school and I don't think it's a musical that can compare to Les Miserables, BUT it is very good and has a nice story line.

My ALL TIME FAVORITE song from Wicked is 'Because I Knew You"!

It's such an emotional song... nearly made me cry alligator tears.

We also went and saw one of my favorite musicals from my childhood, Beauty and the Beast.
The actual live musical is SO much better than the movie!  There are songs that are FANTASTIC!
Like this one:

Aw, LOVE IT!

This is going to wrap up my San Francisco posts.
I absolutely loved being able to travel with my dad!  I love him!   A LOT!
We also went on some tours, but after talking about these musicals a post about a bus tour just wouldn't compare to their AMAZINGNESS.

Do you have a favorite musical?

Dress and Humanity

I'm in this AWESOME class at Utah State called Dress and Humanity. It's totally my thing!  For our first project we are required to make a garment out of re-purposed materials.  Our items will be walking down the runway on September 20th.  I totally feel like i'm on Project Runway!  My design originally was going to be a wedding dress made out of white trash bags.  Have you ever realized just how see through trash bags are?
My next design was a wedding dress made out of wrapping paper.  I made the bodice and I must say that it does look pretty good, the problem is that the wrapping paper is really thick and doesn't allow for much movement.  I ended up bagging that idea.

Here is the inspiration for my new design!

and

Needless to say, it's going to be a very unique dress.
