The Minority

Today while in my nutrition lab we were separated into groups to work on a couple case studies.  My group was made up of six girls, all of whom were very nice. As we went around the circle we introduced ourselves and shard a couple facts that were unique to us.

I soon realized that out of the six girls in the group there were only two of us who weren't married, three of us who had never been pregnant, and four of us who didn't have a child.
I have never felt so out of place!

See, no ring on an important finger.

But if I were to have a ring, I think I would want this one

But I want it to have a split band!

Happily Ever After

I always thought that the Disney Princesses lived
"Happily Ever After".

I guess I was wrong.

Dear _____________;

Dear Cutie Boy in my institute class that I secretly have the hotts for,

Remember Tuesday?  You know, we talked about how I go to zumba like five times a week and how you once went and felt totally weird because you were the only guy.  We then had a wonderful lesson about John the Baptist.  Yeah, that day!  Do you remember how you asked my friend if she eats lunch and she said "yeah, I eat lunch"?  You replied with something similar to "we should go get lunch sometime".

That sucked to hear!  Big time!

Love, Kelsey

ps. my friend has a boyfriend.

30 Day Challenge

So the Thirty Day Blogging Challenge was a total snooze fest, I hated it... therefore I will not be finishing it.  I was never able to blog about the awesome things that were happening on a daily basis.  I will now be posting whatever I want, whenever I want because that's how I roll!

Sorry but that "challenge" was an

Epic Fail

I'll see ya tomorrow.

What I'm a Cravin'

Oh my goodness I just had a wonderful weekend (more to come)!  I hope you tried to have nearly as much fun as I did.

Today is day ten of my challenge and today is devoted to the weird things I have cravings for.  I have crazy weird cravings, like unto a pregnant woman, normally it's mustard on Ritz crackers.  Sick, I know!  This weekend I fulfilled my mustard craving by making Pretzel Rolls (that I dipped in mustard).

They're not just pretzels and they're not just rolls...
They're Pretzel Rolls!

Recipe

Soft Pretzel Rolls
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 package) instant yeast
  • 22 ounces all-purpose flour, approximately 4 1/2 cups
  • 2 ounces unsalted butter, melted
  • 10 cups water
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon water
  • Pretzel salt
Directions
  1. Combine the water, sugar, salt, yeast, flour and butter in a large bowl and mix until well incorporated.
  2. Knead with an electric mixer or by hand until the dough is smooth and pulls away from the side of the bowl, approximately 4 to 5 minutes (by mixer).
  3. Transfer the dough to an oiled dough rising bucket or bowl, cover and let rise for 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 450ºF. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  5. Bring the 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a rolling boil in a large stock pot.
  6. In the meantime, turn the dough out onto a slightly oiled work surface and divide into 8 equal pieces. Form each piece into a small, oval loaf. Place onto the parchment-lined sheet pan.
  7. Place the loaves into the boiling water, topside down, one at a time, for 30 seconds. Remove them from the water using a large flat spatula. Return them, right side up, to the sheet pan.
  8. Brush the top of each pretzel with the beaten egg yolk and water mixture and sprinkle with the pretzel salt. Slash with a sharp bread knife once or twice. Bake until dark golden brown in color, approximately 14 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack for at least 5 minutes before serving.

I'm also having the worst craving for the Sweet-Tart Hearts that are in my drawer!  Sadly I bought them for a friend in Africa so they're just going to sit in my drawer and haunt my until I get off my lazy bum and take them to the post office.

Poor Sweet-Tart Hearts!

I'm No Photographer

It's no secret that i'm not a photographer, or any good at taking pictures for that matter.  Although I have found a new desire to take pictures more often.  I truly do love my new camera Speedy McPeedy so that's probably why I have been taking tons of pictures recently.

Once upon a time I walked into my room and took off the bracelets I was wearing and threw them on top of the bracelets I had worn the day before.  This was the outcome and I thought it was picture worthy.

Casa De La True Aggie

This is the view from my third story apartment.

On Saturday we got a little bit of a heat wave and we were privileged enough to have the sun come out from behind the constant cloud cover.  It was a glorious day!

I'd Simply Die Without You

It's day seven of my Thirty Day Blogging Challenge and I'm still going strong!
Today's challenge was to come up with five things I wouldn't be able to live without.  I decided to focus on inanimate objects because choosing family and friends is obvious, duh.

Here are a few things in my life that I would simply die without! I love them and in return they love me back.

Numero Uno
My Camelback water bottles!
I love them.  They're the best water bottles I have ever used.
I have a pink one and a blue/grey one, someday I will be able to make a rainbow out of all of them.

Reduced Fat Wheat Thins
They're sort of my guilty pleasure, I eat them like most people eat potato chips and I always keep a box of them in the cupboard.
They are acceptable with peanut butter or cream cheese... or any type of cheese for that matter.

Bead Head by TIGI Masterpiece hairspray
Gives movable hold and smells like pineapples... need I say more?

Down East Wonder Cami and Tee
I wear one or the other just about every day.  I love them because they come up high and are super comfortable.

and last but certainly not least

Barely There Mentha Organics™ Sheer Lip Tint - C.O. Bigelow - Bath & Body Works
C.O. Bigelow Mentha Organics Sheer Lip Tint
Color: Barely There
It's always in my pocket and on my lips.  It's great because it gives you just a little bit of shine and hardly any color.

True Aggie?

I started this blog during my freshman year at Utah State University.

Utah State has the long lasting tradition of the "True Aggie".
Today one can become a "True Aggie" by receiving a kiss on the "A"

under a full moon at midnight by somebody who already is a "True Aggie," or on Homecoming or A-Day by somebody who is not.

It's a fun tradition!  Last night was actually a full moon so there were a bunch of people out in the freezing cold waiting to be kissed.

My blog title "A 'True Aggie' Story" is sort of a play on words, not only is it the TRUE story of my life while being an AGGIE, it's the story of my college experience after becoming a "TRUE AGGIE".

And thus the mystery of "A 'True Aggie' Story" is solved.  You're welcome!

Quotable Quotes

There aren't a lot of quotes that I remember, probably because if I did remember all the good ones I would have quotes out the wazoo.

There is only one that I even bother remembering; I originally found it while reading the book
The End of Fashion

for my Dress and Humanity class.

Best book quote EVER!

"Sois belleet tasi-toi"

translated into English

"Shut up and be beautiful"

I'm going to put this quote on the mirror in my room so i'm daily reminded to stop saying negative things about myself.

It isn't about telling myself that I am beautiful.  We're all beautiful in our own way, we just need to go out and BE beautiful.

I hope you have a B E A utiful day!

Just "Sois belleet tasi-toi"

I Watch Them Faithfully

I really don't watch much TV.  First of all I don't have the time and second, I can't stand sitting through commercials.
But I am a firm believer that Hulu is the best thing ever invented!  I can choose to watch my favorite shows when I want to and there really aren't any commercials.

During the week there are three shows that I watch faithfully and when i'm watching them you better not interrupt me!

Sadly I love the Bachelor.  It's pathetic, but I think it's hilarious.  These season is going to be packed with more drama than ABC is going to know what to do with... Are you getting excited?  You should be!

Best Show EVER!  Love it!  It's legitly hilarious; not in the way The Bachelor is hilarious, but better.

Also hilarious!  I literally laugh out loud when I watch Modern Family!

If I had to recommend a show for you to watch I would say watch Psych, it isn't dramatic and as far as I can remember there isn't anything that might be offensive.

What shows do you watch faithfully?

My Favorite Read

Today was easy peasy lemon squeezy!  My all time favoritest book is Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson.

I randomly purchased this book at a thrift store and from the second I read the first page I was completely hooked. I cannot even describe to you how much I love this book!

Synopsis

Jane is the daughter of the rich and famous Broadway producer, Vivienne Margaux.  Being rich certainly has it's advantage, but 8 year old Jane is growing up alone.  Her mother has little time for her and is looking for husband who knows what number.  Jane did have one friend while growing up, Michael, a charming, attractive and wise man in his 30's.  He was her best friend.

Michael does happen to be imaginary.  Jane is the only one who is able to see him.

On Jane's ninth birthday, Michael tells her that he has to leave her, and won't be coming back.  He's assignment was finished and it was time for him to move on to the next child.  As he leaves he tells her that she will no longer be able to remember him.  The problem is that Jane never forgets about her imaginary friend Michael.

The story goes on but it would be such a shame if you didn't read the book to find out how the story ends.  I promise that there are twists and turns and you will be second guessing every assumption that you make.

What is your favorite read?

Gotta Love My Flicks

Day two = My Favorite Movies!

I have lots of favorite movies but I limited the list to my top three.

She's the Man

You just can't go wrong with Amanda Bynes, she's just so gosh darn funny!  I could literally watch this movie over and over again; it's the only movie that I quote on a regular basis... thus meaning it is an awesome movie.  Basically it's a chick flick, but I also like it because it shows that girls can do anything a guy can do.  It's also a modern day Shakespeare.

Calendar Girls

If you haven't seen this movie go out and rent it right now!  Right now I say!  The best friend and I get together and if we haven't gone to Redbox to rent a movie you can bet that this is one of the movies we will probably end up watching.
Hilarious movie, and totally not what you are expecting... unless it is what you are expecting, then I assume you cheated.

What Happens in Vegas

Funny, funny movie!  It, like She's the Man has tons of quotable lines that pop up in my everyday conversations with people.  I've watched it while in Vegas, I've watched it while not in Vegas, it's good no matter where you are.

If you had to pick a favorite movie what would it be?

Tunes to Sing To

It's day numero uno of the adventure that I call My Thirty Day Blogging Challenge!  I should have started off with something easy but that seemed a little lazy of me.

I'll be honest, I don't think I have an all time favorite song but I definitely have a few that I like... A lot!

Note: The songs below will be linked to YouTube videos.

Train- Hey Soul Sister
the bird and the bee- My Love
Katy Perry- Firework
Barry Louis Polisar- All I Want Is You
Priscilla Ahn- Dream
Michael Bublé- Hollywood

Although I do love all of the songs in the above list there is noting that makes me quite as happy as the song
Smile by Uncle Kracker.

Ironically it makes me smile.

What is your favorite song?

Hot Buns!

My roommates and I have always joked around about one day getting together and doing the old 1980's work out video
Buns of Steel

Well, today was the day that Angel and I broke out the exercise mats and got out workout on!

My booty was on fire!

Sadly our other roommate, Lauren wasn't able to get any good action shots.

Dear _____________;

Dear Job,

Where are you?  I know you are out there but I'll be honest, this game of hide and seek is getting old.  I would love it if you would come back into my life so we could once again have the love/ hate relationship that we have always had.

Sincerely, Kelsey

As you can tell I don't have a job at the moment, and yes I would love to have some cash flowing into my pocket.  Sadly I'm becoming very good at the poor college student thing.  The whole "starving college student" title is just around the corner.

It's an Apple Cider Sort of Day

It's a butt freezing cold day in Logan, Utah and all I want is Apple Cider!  Sadly i'm too lazy to get in my car and drive down to Starbucks.  I could make my own but I don't have the ingredients and sometimes it's just better when you get it straight from the coffee shop.
Now you are probably saying to yourself "why doesn't this crazy girl just make it from a packet like a normal person?!", my dear friend I don't make apple cider from a packet because once you've had cider from the Starbucks gods you can't go back!

Mmmmmm.  Behold the deliciousness!

I do have the recipe to make my own but I left my syrup back with the family.  I'll be kind and give you the recipe so you can know of the beauty that is Starbucks' Carmel Apple Cider.

1cup Apple Juice
2tsp (approximately) Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce Syrup
Whipped Cream
Cinnamon
Caramel Squeeze Syrup

Heat up your apple juice and cinnamon dolce syrup.
Dollop with whipped cream
Sprinkle with Cinnamon
Drizzle with Caramel Syrup
And Enjoy.

Super simple but is the best thing in the world!

Is This Crossing a Line?

My work just started this new sales goals program in hopes that rewarding us will cause us to have a desire to sell more.  We already make commission depending on how well we do during the day but my bosses decided to add some extra perks.

If we sell a certain amount of watch cleanings in a week they'll buy the store lunch.

If we hit the first goal and then pass that by X amount of money my boss will let us wear jeans to work for an entire week.

The first two are awesome!  I like lunch and I would love to be able to wear jeans to work.

But the last goal troubles me.

If we hit the second goal plus sell X amount of watch bands they will let us grow out our facial hair.

Did it ever occur to them that I don't have facial hair?  If I were to make this last goal would it be inappropriate to show up to work looking a little something like this?

Granted I won't be at work for the next four months because i'll be at school but I think that me showing up to work with a fake mustache is reasonable if everyone else gets the chance to grow out their facial hair.

And when I say "everyone else" I literally mean "everyone else", I'm the only girl besides one of my bosses.

Cutie-est Movie Ever

Tonight was my last night at home before I venture back to Utah State.  I started the night out by going out for sushi with my family, there is nothing better than eating sushi family style!  After stuffing myself on what might be the last "real" meal I eat for a while I spent some quality girl time with the best friend.  I dragged her to the grocery store and up and down each isle.  Despite it being a trip to the grocery store we had lots of fun.  The two of us always have fun together!

After running all my errands we watched the movie Flipped.

I do have to say that it's the cutie-est movie ever... maybe not "ever", but it sounds nice doesn't it?

My synopsis:  Juli and Brice meet in the second grade and for Juli it's love at first sight, but Bryce thinks she's weird and is a little afraid of girls, plus she probably had cooties.  He tries to keep his distance but they are neighbors, go to the same school and are in the same classes for the next six years.  From grade school to junior high and all the drama that comes with growing up and discovering who you are Juli is head over heels.
BUT will the tables be flipped?  Will Juli always have these feelings for Bryce?  Will Bryce ever have feelings for Juli?

Just go to Redbox and rent it.  It's ninety minutes, rated PG and from Redbox will only cost you a dollar per night.

I don't think you will be disappointed.

Vintage Vensday

I'm weird and have an odd obsession for teapots, keys and birds.  Well, I'm also an avid Etsy stalker, I'm constantly looking for cool things on Etsy.

I have been dreaming of silver teapots since the day I walked away from the most gorgeous silver tea set at my local thrift store.  I'm still kicking myself that I didn't snatch it.  I kick myself even harder when I reminded that my mother said she's buy the tea set for me and I didn't let her.
What was I thinking?

Silverplate Tea Set

I found this tea set on Sweet Drawers's Etsy shop.  I was curious about the name "Sweet Drawers" and you might be as well.  The shop is actually devoted to drawers... as in undies, undergarments, unmentionables
...
actually it's mostly vintage lingerie.
I'm sufficiently sketched out.  The thought of used lingerie creeps me out and the thought of vintage lingerie makes me a little sick.  But whatevs.

Back to teapots!

I am almost positive that vintage teapots will be the next big thing.  I kid you not when I say that everything I end up loving becomes the next big thing... I hate it!

My love for vintage is fading now that everyone loves it and people can actually guess when i'm wearing it.

I also found these on Etsy.  They're not vintage, but how super easy would they be to make yourself?  Answer: Super Easy!

SUMMER IN HEELS - Navy Blue Suede Pumps with Yellow Peacock Feathers

If you're feeling lazy or simply like you just aren't crafty to make a pair yourself they can be purchased from
They cost $50 plus shipping and it looks like she has quite a few sizes left.

Do you have a favorite Etsy shop that I can check out?

That Time I Met Busy Bee

Once upon I time I met my blogging hero Busy Bee Lauren, it was super awesome!  I was in line to purchase some frozen yogurt when out of the corner of my eye I see that she is sitting with her husband enjoying some froyo of her own.  I immediately turn to my friend and whisper "Look, it's Busy Bee!" we are in rapture by her awesomeness and decide that we must go talk to her, so we do.  It was lovely meeting her and Ted, talking and laughing.

Photobucket

And then I woke up.
I must have had one of her recent posts on my mind.

I have crazy dreams where I meet people who I think are awesome... i'm cool like that.

Looking Back

I'm finally taking the time to look back on the year 2010 and i'm sure glad it's over!  I don't regret anything that happened but I am welcoming 2011 with open arms.

2010 started off with a little romance.  I met someone while being stranded at my roommates house after hitting black ice and running my car into a pole.  But I moved back to Logan so things didn't go very far.

At the end of January Carter left on an LDS mission to Canada.
Skyler, Me (Kelsey), Carter, Jesika and Eddie
The fantastic five!
Him leaving shook me up for quite a while.  I had come to the realization that life was officially starting to change and that soon all my friends would be saying "goodbye" possibly forever.

February... who knows happened?  I was single, no one left on missions, no one died... basically there wasn't anything worth remembering.
I think my roommates and I did take "family" pictures though.
Kourtney, Sara, Lauren, Angel, Becka, Me (Kelsey)

March
My roommate Becka got married in March right before spring break.
Rachel, Lauren, Kourtney, Becka, Jon, Angel, Me

After the reception I went to Las Vegas with Jesika
Jeskia, Kelsey
We stayed in the new hotel on the strip called the Aria!  I loved how modern the Aria was, but I must say that I enjoy staying at the Bellagio more. We went and saw Lion King to get us in the Disney spirit.
After our stay in Sin City we headed down to Cali to party it up in Disneyland!
Kelsey, Jesika

I think my friends and I had a princess party in April to celebrate Rachel's birthday.
Kelsey, Brooklin, Lindsay

The first week of May was kicked off by having finals and the week ended with me having a birthday.  I started a new job working at a little watch shop selling and fixing watches.
Eddie left on an LDS mission to Ghana at the end of May
Jesika, Skyler, Eddie, Me

Again we said goodbye to one of our beloved friends and what was once five that became four was cut down to three.

During the month of June I worked, worked and worked some more.

July was spent with friends.
Shelby, Jesika, Me, Tuki

At the end of August I moved back to Logan to start my Sophomore year at Utah State University.  Lauren and I made a trip to the local thrift store.
Lauren, Me

September

I was soon called to be the Relief Society Secretary in my YSA ward.  My calling has been such a blessing and has brought me closer to my Savior and brother Jesus Christ.

I also changed majors.  I was a Psychology major but I came to the realization that I hate Psychology.  I am now working towards a degree in Family and Consumer Science Education.  I plan on being a high school sewing teacher and hope to one day open my own dress shop.  If all else fails I will craft and blog about my adventures.

I also made a skirt out of wrapping paper for one of my class projects.  The skirt went down the runway as part of the annual Recycle and Re-design fashion show.

October was a fun month!  I learned how to rock climb and pretty much fell in LOVE.  I also chopped at least six inches off of my hair.  I needed to be done, but I miss it now.

I met Mike at the end of October and we dated for a while and I realized that I had officially lost the ten pounds I had gained since my high school graduation.

Skyler left on his mission at the start of November.
He's currently serving in Johannesburg South Africa

December = Finals and Christmas and going back to work!
I hope everyone had a

and a happy New Year!

2010 was a good year; it did have lots of trials but they only made me a stronger and a somewhat better person.
